Rev. Art Hanna, President Emeritus Passes

Pension Fund of the Christian Church honors Art Hanna for his life of service to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Pension Fund of the Christian Church. Art passed peacefully, on Friday, December 13, 2019 with his wife Sue, children Lin and Jim, and Jim’s wife Sally by his side. Art served on the staff of Pension Fund for over 30 years. The memorial service will be held at Allisonville Christian Church on January 4, at 12 p.m. with the visitation immediately prior, starting at 10 a.m.

"Art was a dedicated servant of Christ and the Church. He was a valued colleague in his ministry through Pension Fund. He was always ready to help in any way and endeared himself to our staff and those we served," stated Lester Palmer, who Art would succeed as President of Pension Fund.

Jim Hamlett, Art’s successor reflected, "Art literally put his heart into caring for the members of Pension Fund. His quiet and gentle manner was that of a gifted servant leader. He will be dearly missed.”

Art was an active member at University Park Christian Church and Allisonville Christian Church. He served as a leader in Boy Scouts of America, along with his son Jim, and in Special Olympics with his daughter, Lin.

Arthur Allan Hanna was born on February 26, 1941, in Abilene, Texas, to Martha Broad Hanna and Arthur James Hanna. "Art", as he was known by family and friends, graduated from Abilene High School, Texas Christian University, Brite Divinity School, and Christian Theological Seminary. He was ordained in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in 1968.

Art's call to ministry began with the National Parks Service; he served at Yellowstone, Great Smoky Mountains, Shenandoah, Everglades, and Big Bend National Parks. From there, he heeded the call to ministry at First Christian Church in Alpine, Texas.

In 1973, Art accepted a job at Pension Fund of the Christian Church in Indianapolis. "Art was a faithful servant of a servant church," said current Pension Fund President and CEO, Todd Adams. "His leadership and service continue to guide and shape the way we serve our members today."

An avid sports fan, he followed the Chicago Cubs, Indiana Pacers, Butler Bulldogs, the Indianapolis Colts, and his beloved alma mater, the TCU Horned Frogs.
